Kip Conforti has posted a job for a part time position at his two package-shipping station in Pennsylvania. In his 20 years of business, he has filled similar roles with college and high school students. This time the top candidate is an older man.

Mr. Conforti is tired of young employees who are late to work, frequently call in sick, and spend their time on social media rather than talking with customers. About a year ago, he tried something different--recruiting people who are more likely to carry AARP cards than the latest iPhone.
