Hawks Grab No. 7 Seed in East, Hold off Heat 116-105
. The Atlanta Hawks win the play-in game against the Miami Heat,116-105, and advance to the Eastern Conference playoffs.
MIAMI (AP). Trae Young scored 25 point, Clint Capela grabbed a 21-rebound haul and the Atlanta Hawks clinched the No. The Atlanta Hawks have clinched the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs after beating the Miami Heat in a play-in game Tuesday night.
Dejounte added 18 points to the Hawks' score. They avenged their five-game loss in Round 1 last season against Miami and will face Boston on Saturday.
Kyle Lowry's 33 points, his highest scoring game in two Miami seasons, helped the Heat to win the No. 1 seed. They will play either Toronto or Chicago at home on Friday. The 8th seed will face the top overall seed Milwaukee for Round 1. Raptors and Bulls will play on Wednesday. The winner of the Friday game will open the series with the Bucks.
Tyler Herro finished with 26 points for Miami and Jimmy Butler had 21.
Four Hawks reserves -- Saddiq bey, Bogdan Bogdanovic onyeka okongwu, and Jalen Johnston -- scored 53 points.
New Orleans will be able to match this mark when they host Oklahoma City on Tuesday night.
They earned it on the boards. Atlanta outrebounded Miami by 63-39. This included a 22-6 advantage on the offensive glass, which led to a 26-6 lead in second-chance point.
The Hawks used two timeouts during the first 3 minutes 53 seconds of the third period. They saw their 24-point advantage with 2:37 remaining in the half (63-39 Atlanta) quickly disappear.
Miami had cut the gap to 15 at halftime and then started the third quarter with a 16-6 surge. The Heat got within 71-66 after a run of 27-8 in just 7 minutes.
The Hawks responded then and each time the Heat had a surge. Atlanta led by 13 going into the final quarter. When Miami closed to within six points midway through the last quarter, the Hawks responded with five straight scores.

Hawks: This was the second occasion this season when Atlanta had a large lead in the first half and almost blew it. On Jan. 16, the Hawks led Miami by 26 points, but allowed the Heat to get as close as four points in the final seconds. They held on and won 121-113. Capela only had one game with 20 rebound in the regular-season.
Heat: Lowry was the first player to come off the bench for a postseason match since 2009. In his last 94 games after the regular-season, he has only started. The Heat were 1-6 against the possible opponents on Friday -- 0-3 Chicago and 1-3 Toronto.
Looking Ahead
Boston won 3-0 over Atlanta in this season. Nearly all of the rotation players for both teams were absent from at least one game. Young averaged 31 and 11 assists against the Celtics in two games; Jayson Tatum had 26.5 points, eleven rebounds and 7 assists against the Hawks in two matches.
The Celtics will play the Hawks in the 13th consecutive series, the first between the two franchises since Atlanta's six game Round 1 victory in 2016.
PLAY-IN-HISTORY
Miami is now the 16th franchise that has participated in the play-in tourney. Chicago, Toronto, and Oklahoma City are set to increase the list of teams to 19 on Wednesday. The only clubs that have not yet been included in the play-in are Dallas, Denver Houston, Milwaukee New York Orlando, Philadelphia Phoenix Sacramento and Utah.
