Mexico suspends diplomatic relations with Ecuador after ‘barbaric' arrest of ex-vice president

Ecuadorian police stormed the Mexican embassy in Quito on Friday night to arrest a former vice president seeking asylum there. Mexico’s foreign minister announced that the country would break off diplomatic relations with Ecuador after the arrest of the former Ecuadorian vice president. The arrest came after a growing rift between the two countries due to Mexico granting political asylum to the former vice president. The Mexican president denounced the arrest and stated that police from Ecuador forcibly entered the Mexican embassy. Mexico plans to lodge a complaint with the International Court of Justice regarding the actions of the Ecuadorian police.
