An Akron, Ohio, school resource officer has been asked not to return to Firestone Community Learning Center following an incident captured on surveillance video. The footage showed the officer punching a student multiple times in the head during metal detector procedures. The student was told repeatedly to pass through the detector, which registered a warning. The officer, attempting to ensure safety, detained the student when he tried to push past them. The officer announced an arrest and tried to handcuff the student, who resisted. After about 25 seconds, the officer punched the student, who fell to the ground and was then handcuffed. It was later discovered that the student had a cell phone, which is not allowed at the school. The school's superintendent reviewed the video and deemed the officer's actions unacceptable, requesting their permanent removal. The officer is on administrative leave while an internal review is conducted.
