Tesla is facing a lawsuit filed by the nonprofit Environmental Democracy Project over alleged violations of the Clean Air Act at its assembly plant in Fremont, California. The environmental group claims that Tesla has emitted harmful pollution into the surrounding neighborhoods and has violated the law multiple times since January 2021. Tesla’s manufacturing practices have long been criticized by environmentalists, and the company has been fined by the EPA in the past. The latest lawsuit joins previous legal actions against Tesla regarding hazardous waste materials and environmental concerns in Germany. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has also accused Tesla of allowing unabated emissions and is seeking changes to the company’s factory operations. Tesla has yet to respond to the lawsuit.
