Elle Fanning made a statement at Monday night’s Met Gala by wearing a completely transparent Balmain gown. The dress was hand-covered with four layers of resin to achieve a glass effect. Other celebrities also embraced sheer outfits at the event, including Emily Ratajkowski, Kim Kardashian, Doja Cat, Phoebe Dyvenor, Greta Lee, and Eddie Redmayne. Sheer designs that hint at nudity have become popular on red carpets and runways. The trend is not new, with Carroll Baker wearing a similar dress designed by Balmain in 1962.
